Calver Mill

The history of Calver Mill is fascinating. Most of the mills in the area were at one time cotton mills. Calver Mill was a cotton mill and had strong links with Madras, India, in the past. For this reason, I chose blue and white for the walls of the mill, reflected in the sky and clouds, and colours representing Madras for the roof and surrounding buildings. It was a very enjoyable subject to paint. The mill has now been turned into private apartments. In the distance very faintly can be seen the village of Froggat, taking the eye into the Grindleford and Longstone area of the Derwent Valley.
