Castleton to Winnats Pass

I've had this painting in my mind for about 4 years and sketched the scene many times. I love visiting Castleton which is nestled in the valley and the drama of the steepness of Winnats Pass above. I think it portrays 'Castles in the air' both the Peveril Castle above Castleton and the steep rocky castles in the rock formations in the Pass.

Peakshole Water emerges from Peaks Cavern below the Castle and meanders through the village.
